The Taj, seen in today"s image, was commissioned in 1631 by Shah Jahan, the fifth Mughal emperor, to honour his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. This tomb is the centrepiece of a huge complex, which also includes a mosque, a guest house and beautifully landscaped gardens surrounded by a grand wall. Laid out in a striking rectangular shape, the tomb is flanked by giant arches and alcoves that merge Indo-Islamic and Mughal architectural styles. Dating back all the way to 1810, Oktoberfest is the world"s biggest beer festival, held in Munich, Germany. It all began with the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The celebrations took place at Theresienwiese, also known as Theresa"s Meadow. The festivities lasted for five days, filled with exciting activities such as parades and horse races. Oktoberfest has become an annual event that can draw over six million people, with each person drinking just over a litre of beer on average. Beyond Munich, this tipsy festival has become a popular celebration in multiple countries, including Canada, particularly in the region of Kitchner-Waterloo, Ontario. King Prasat Thong—from the dynasty of the Siamese Ayutthaya Kingdom that ruled Southeast Asia between the 14th and 18th centuries—built the sanctuary to symbolise the centre of the universe and connote his aspiration to become the future Buddha. From the Buddhist temple, the Historic City of Ayutthaya can be reached by boat or road. Three rivers link the once-metropolitan city of the Siamese Kingdom to the sea. Weather forecasts may not always appear fully reliable, but thanks to advances in technology like satellites and supercomputers, they have come a long way. Because of these advancements, global weather models provide forecasts for up to 16 days and, the average lead time for tornado warnings has gone from -15 minutes in 1974 to around 15 minutes today. Jutting into the sky above Els Ports Natural Park, the Roques de Benet is a cluster of rock formations in the Ports de Tortosa Beseit region of Catalonia, Spain. The tallest peak out of this cluster stands at an elevation of 1,017 metres above sea level. Overlooking the Ebro delta, the peak offers views of streams and pine forests, with trails that lead into the mountains. The word Benet comes from Arabic, hinting at the varied past that the area has had, including both Arabic and Christian settlers. These days, the park is home to a variety of fauna, from ibex and otters to vultures and eagles. Animals aren"t the only inhabitants of the area. In Japan"s Gifu Prefecture, Gujō Hachiman Castle stands majestically on Hachiman Mountain.
